OpenCloud 2.0 soll Sicherung großer Datenmengen vereinfachen

Nach einer ersten Testversion im Februar geht der ownCloud-Fork OpenCloud in die Vollen und präsentiert mit Version 2.0 sein kommerzielles Angebot. Anzeige Zwei Monate nach Unternehmensgründung stellt die quelloffene Filesharing-Plattform OpenCloud ihr erstes kommerziell ausgerichtetes Angebot vor. Version 2.0 von OpenCloud soll Behörden und Unternehmen einen effizienten und sicheren Dienst für Dateiverwaltung und -austausch sowie Kollaboration bieten – begleitet von professionellen Support- und Service-Level-Paketen. Anzeige Version 2.0 des ownCloud-Forks verspricht insbesondere die einfache Sicherung und Wiederherstellung großer Datenmengen. Dafür soll das neue "File Native Backup" sorgen. Anders als bei datenbankgestützten Lösungen reiche bei OpenCloud eine einfache Sicherung des Dateisystems mittels Snapshot oder Dateikopie für vollständig konsistente Backups aus. Dass keine Datenbank für die Speicherung der Metadaten benötigt werde, soll auch den Betriebsaufwand sowie Ausfall- und Störungsrisiko verringern und Admins erhebliche Zeitersparnis bringen. Ebenfalls will OpenCloud mit einer leistungsfähigen Volltextsuche und hoher Skalierbarkeit punkten. Service-Pakete und Migrationstool Mit der neuen Version führt OpenCloud auch Servicepakete für den professionellen Einsatz ein . Kunden können darüber direkt vom Hersteller langfristigen Software-Support, schnelle Sicherheitsupdates, Checks beim Verteilen von Updates, persönlichen Support und ähnliches beziehen. Im zweiten Quartal des Jahres will der Anbieter dann mit Tools und Support für die Migration von anderen Datenaustauschplattformen hin zu ownCloud nachlegen, damit Kunden ihre Daten und Strukturen einfach übertragen können. Kunden können OpenCloud sowohl im eigenen Rechenzentrum als auch über ausgewählte Partner betreiben; erste Angebote für SaaS soll es ab Mai geben. Die Community-Version steht gratis zum Download zur Verfügung , zum Antesten gibt es auch eine Demo-Instanz , die jede Stunde neu aufgesetzt wird und alle hinterlegten Daten löscht. Die erste Version von OpenCloud hatte das Unternehmen bereits Ende Februar präsentiert – allerdings noch als Testversion für die Community. Version 1.0 brachte den grundlegenden Funktionsumfang wie Dateien in der Cloud speichern, verwalten und teilen sowie eine granulare Benutzer- und Rechteverwaltung. Für die Bearbeitung von Office-Dateien setzt man auf die Integration der quelloffenen Suite Collabora Online. ownCloud-Inhaber will klagen Anzeige OpenCloud wurde Ende Januar als Tochterunternehmen der Heinlein Gruppe gegründet, die den meisten wohl als Betreiber des E-Mail-Providers mailbox.org bekannt sein dürfte. Ebenfalls gehört auch die Open-Source-Videokonferenzlösung OpenTalk zum Heinlein-Portfolio. Beides, OpenTalk und OpenCloud, will Unternehmensgründer Peer Heinlein bei Unternehmen, im Bildungssektor und bei Behörden als sichere und unabhängige Alternative zu den gängigen US-Diensten vermarkten. Die Gründung von OpenCloud ist von einer Kontroverse begleitet, handelt es sich doch um einen Fork der Datenaustauschplattform ownCloud Infinite Scale (oCIS). Dabei sind wohl auch über ein Dutzend Entwickler von oCIS zu OpenCloud gewechselt . Der Security-Anbieter Kiteworks, der das ownCloud-Projekt 2023 übernahm und als oCIS vermarktet, zeigte sich verärgert und drohte in Folge rechtliche Schritte an. Kiteworks-CEO Jonathan Yaron gab im Gespräch mit heise online an, Peer Heinlein nach deutschem und amerikanischem Recht verklagen zu wollen.
